The Word

The Word is still in my heart. I will never forget the things shared by Sis. Melanie Shock during the BOTT conference in the Philippines. On one of the panel discussions, she mentioned the importance of understanding the Word of God. There were many aspects that she has pointed out but I’m going to focus on one that has poked my heart. She shared how some of the Bible characters referred to the Word as “sweet” and “honey”. She said that the word when fully understood, will be as sweet to us as it has been to them (Bible Characters – e.g. David, John).  She also said that unlike food where we can separate and ignore some foods that we don’t want to eat, the Word of God must all be eaten. Nothing should be spared. As I sat there listening to Sis. Shock, I started meditating on what she just shared and I brought it until I went back home.
I’m very much disturbed by so many church goers who seem to be contented with going to church and just listening to the preacher. The Lord warned us:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.” Hosea 4:6
God has sought to it that His law in the old testament should be passed on from generations to generations. But eventually, people have loved doing iniquity, abiding in the works of the flesh and breaking the law of God. How come that these things have come to pass? I have always been wondering since there are so many Heroes of Faith that stood up still for God in those days and yet their sons and daughters have still committed sin and came short of God’s glory.
I saw the problem in church. So many Christians have fought the battle and won victoriously. But over the time, they forgot to keep their children to be equipped as they(the parents) were. The parents have placed all the burdens on to the Sunday School Teachers, ignoring the fact that above everyone else, they (the parents) have the very biggest responsibility over the souls of their children.  They let their children “…be conformed into this world…” which slowly allows the children to be caught up until they have find the world more exciting than serving the Lord. The children have eventually destroyed their “little” faith in God because they lacked of the knowledge of God. They didn’t know how wrong and sinful are the things they are doing because they are not deep in studying God’s Word. The parents have then become tired of talking to their children who talks back at them because they (the parents) themselves aren’t speaking to their children with love anymore.
If the parents have taught the children that keeping the word of God will refrain them from committing sins, there shouldn’t be any problem. King David has learned this in his days:
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11
Going back to Sis. Shock’s message, the word of God is wonderful. It’s full of God’s perfect plan for all human and His undying love for this world. Yet, if we would not seek Him and study His Word earnestly in our daily lives, we would soon fall into the deceiving tactics of the enemy. The enemy can easily deceive us, like what he did to Eve, and twist the very word of God that if we are not deeply knowledgeable with God’s Word, we would be easily fall to thi trap. The enemy can make us feel bored on reading the Bible. Making other stuffs (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Texting, Watching TV/Movies, Going out with friends, Playing computer games) more exciting. And sometimes, the Word can also be painful that the enemy can easily make us believe that it is not the way as it should be – leading us away from the real essence of the Word.
I plead to every one, not only to parents, but to every one who is concerned with his own soul and the very soul of your loved ones… If you want to serve God, you must walk His walk and follow His ways. And you cannot follow  and be obedient on to His ways, until you know what His laws are. In order to know, you must do so by acquiring the knowledge and wisdom about the very God that we serve. Study His words. Keep His words. Live His words. And share His words.
God bless everyone!
